Dear Ancestor

Dear Ancestor

Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood and bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so
I wonder if you lived and loved
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
And come to visit you

Ann Kiernan (Nee Saunders)

Ann  Saunders born 1838 second daughter of Robert and Ann.

Ann was born in Longford and moved to Evandale a few years later.
On the 28th September 1852 Annie and her mother got into an altercation where Ann assaulted her daughter. You can read the full court document located on the home page under Ann Saunders (Nee Clancy).
On the 12th January 1853 Annie married Michael Kiernan who was a convict who had not yet received his Ticket of leave. He served only 8 years and 5 months of a 15 year sentence receiving his ticket of leave in April 1853 . Michael was reportedly 52 years of age when he married Annie, she was just 15 years old.

Michael and Ann had 8 children
Michael 1854 married Edith Barrett and lived most of his life in Hobart.
Female 1860
Male 1864

Michael died on the 12th February 1891 age recorded at death was 88 years. Buried at the Roman Catholic burial ground Evandale. Ann was still alive at Michaels death I have not yet been able to find a record of Ann's death but I assume she is buried at Evandale with Michael.

Maria King (Nee Saunders)

Maria Saunders born 1836 first child of Robert and Ann.

Maria was born in Longford and moved to Evandale a few years later.

In October 1854 Maria Saunders appears to have given birth to a son William Henry Saunders in Morven (Evandale) the father is listed as unknown. Is this our Maria?

Maria married in November 1854 to Thomas Nelson King who was 36 at the time. Thomas was listed as a baker in Evandale in 1858. There are no records found yet of any children.

Thomas Nelson King was still living in Evandale in 1860.

On the 9 January 1861 Thomas Nelson King is in the Cornwall Chronicle in a legal dispute in regards to land he had purchased that had a Water course and Quarry on it. There seams to be some sort of dispute over boundaries with the neighbour and who owned what. It does not list the address of the property.

Thomas was recorded as insolvent in 29th May 1861 he is listed as a farmer at West Arm, West Tamar. On the 8 June 1861 an application for discharge was lodged, it was granted on 22 June 1861.
No other records have been located for both Maria and Thomas.
